Throughout the past weeks, you can see people wearing their favorite national team jerseys, people chilling in the “mamak” store waiting for the match to start. What match am I referring to? It’s the FIFA WORLDCUP! For one month of countless screaming, shouting, cheering, sleepless nights, joy and disappointments, it all finally came to an end on July 14th; the match between Germany and Argentina.
I am very lucky to be invited by Domino’s Malaysia, to attend the ‘Domino's Football Final Viewing Party in Tropicana Golf & Country Resort Club House. Wondering which team I supported during the finals after my favorite team Spain lost? Well, it’s ARGENTINA! Since there is one Barcelona Player in the team (Lionel Messi) there is no other team I would support!
The event started at 11pm. I thought I was already super late since I left my house quite late. When I arrived, walked up the stairs and there is this cute little BolaBears on top of the table. It was so cute I tell you and I even wanted to bring back one set of it but nah, it’s not to be given out since it’s a prop for the photo booth. Took a picture with the BolaBears, and headed down to the registration. Gotten some free gifts (a water bottle, a free Regular Domino’s Pizza and a scarf too). Done with registration, and I was directed to my seat. So excited!
I acquainted with other bloggers, The setting of the hall was so cool - at the front they have 3 big screens so that we can have a good view of the match, and then comes the beanbags (a lot of them) and then comes the normal chairs. Being Malaysian, there’s always the silent treatment for a while. Right after the silent treatment, new friends have been made! In the event hall, I was expected to see like Germany and Argentina jerseys only but I see jerseys like Brazil, Russia etc. I was like “ah man, I should have just wore my Xavi Spain Jersey :(“
Ms Hasfahlinda Hassan, Senior Manager, Marketing Domino's Pizza Malaysia & Singapore with her welcoming speech! |
The event started off about 11pm, which began with a welcoming speech by Hasfahlinda Hassan, Senior Manager, Marketing Domino's Pizza Malaysia & Singapore. That was the time where Domino’s pizza came in bulks, MORE PIZZA MORE FOOTBALL!! First time in my life I see such huge amount of pizza! We were given the green light to just take one whole box of pizza and eat it! We were chatting and also debating on who will be taking home the trophy and in the end, we just swallowed 2 boxes of pizza, and man, I was so full!
The pizza was amazing and yet stuffy for the tummy, so got to walk around the hall. The organizers set up some games like; Human Foosball, XBOX FIFA 14, Finger Football and Kick The Ball Into The Goal. Among all the games, the most interesting one was the Human Foosball! I myself do love playing foosball. But to see human replacing the plastic players on the pole, it was definitely my first. They had Germany vs Argentina on the Human Foosball, the crowd came to the venue, chanting as loud as possible and the atmosphere was like a small mini WorldCup!
The actual Foosball Game, normal eh? |

I AM NOT JOKING ON THE PIZZA COMING IN BULK! |
REAL HUMAN FOOSBALL GAME! THIS ONE YOU DON'T SEE IT EVERYDAY! |
The iPad Mini all thanks to Domino's Malaysia :) |
After receiving my iPad and thanking Miss Hasfahlinda Hassan for the iPad, it was just 10 more minutes to the WorldCup Finale! Everyone went back to their seats, chilling with the beanbags and pizza and juice, HERE COMES THE MATCH!
Germany fan's on the waiting for the match to begin |
While waiting for the second half to start, tummy starts to be hungry again (man, talk about big appetite =)). Nasi Lemak was being served and zoooooom! Grabbed a plate of Nasi Lemak, headed back to my beanbag, and there goes the second half of the match. Both supporters were hoping that their favorite team will score a goal here, but no ball was sent behind the nets by both teams. The referee issued yellow card numerously to both team players. Corner kicks and free kicks was also given to the players from both team, none of it was a goal. 90minutes ended with 0-0.
Extra time is the crucial moment. 1st half of the extra time, both team went beyond limits and attacked one and another. While watching the extra time, my tummy was also being served with slices of pizza. 1st half ended with 0-0 without any goals being sent.
Fans still chomping on the pizza's, DE-LI-CIOUS! |
Argentina was offered with a free kick towards the end of the match. Lionel Messi was the guy who took the free kick. It was a crucial moment where Messi would be the one who decides the fate of Argentina. A score which will bring them to the penalty or, a miss where will lead them to not bringing home the cup. The face on Lionel Messi was indescribable; filled with pressure, stress and worry. Messi kicks, but unfortunately the ball goes over the post. That kick from Messi set Germany as the WorldCup winner. The referee blows his whistle, and that was the end of the match.
Argentina fans were left with sadness. Sadness can be seen on their faces. I was disappointed too but what I can say, they did their best already. A great match between Germany and Argentina. With the official whistle being blown off, there goes the end of the event.
If you asked me how my first ever-live football match live screening was, I would say, it was awesome!! I finally can have my checklist being ticked on “Watching live football match with random people in a Malaysia football atmosphere”! Thank you Domino’s for the great opportunity to attend the live screening and it was an honor for me to blog about your event.
P.S: Argentina may have lost they WorldCup, but their efforts were commendable. It was a good match that proved they were also winners. Oh yes, I went home happily with a smiling face since I got an iPad Mini :D Yayyyyyy~!
